Mikel Arteta has pleaded to Gunners fans to give Gabriel Martinelli more time to warm into the team than to expect a quick flight into resolving the bareness of the Gunners attack as the season enters into action pack fixtures.

Arsenal are facing downgrading threats after two points from a run of seven games in the Premier League, having their woes multiplied when Everton banged them by 2-1 at the Goodison in the absence of captain, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang who is sidelined with a calf problem.

The absence of the Gabonese will affect Arteta’s side who fighting to win their first PL game since November 1 and are four points off relegation zone.

Gabriel Martinelli enjoyed 19-minutes of game time against the Toffees after a nine-month time off following a serious knee injury and will be in contention to be involved against Manchester City in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.

“We cannot put that pressure on his shoulders,” he replied when asked about fans hailing Martinelli as the man to save Arsenal's season.

“It's not fair for him. He brings that enthusiasm that the fans can see because he's got something special, a special energy every time he steps on that field.

“But remember that Gabi, what he's done in the Premier League, the time that he's been with us is very limited. Let him develop like we are doing with many other young kids that we have here.

“It's the same with many other young players that are probably taking more responsibility than perhaps they should do in this moment.

“It's the squad that we have at the moment and what we have to manage. They have to try to do their best but I don't think it's fair to put all the pressure on them now as well.”
