The next round of the Carabao Cup will witness the Manchester and London derbies after City and United plus Spurs and Brentford went through in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Manchester City and United both advanced into the semis of the League cup for the second successive time following victories against Arsenal and Everton respectively.

City triumphed over their rivals last season in the same stage before winning the trophy against an Aston Villa side.

United would be looking to avenge their defeat this time around after cruising past Carlo Ancelotti’s side on Wednesday night by 2-0 – Cavani scored late in the second half before Anthony Martial added a second in injury time to advance into the four-team round not far from a final.

Arteta woes were deepened on Tuesday night when Guardiola’s no mercy team triumphed past the Gunners by 4-1 to keep their hopes of retaining the title for the fourth consecutive time alive.

Elsewhere, Spurs will host Brentford on the scheduled date of January 5 and 6.

Mourinho's saw a 3-1victory against Stoke City, with goals from Bale, Winks and Kane before Jordan Thompson scored a consolation at the Britannia.

Brentford reached a major semi-final for the first time in their 131-year history with a 1-0 win over Newcastle scoring the only goal in the second half against Josh Dasilva.
