Frank Lampard as not satisfied at his team’s defeat at the Molineux on Tuesday night, saying they could have held on to their only goal to win the match instead of allowing Wolves to get into the game.

The manager believes there is more hard work to be done if his side can challenge for the Premier League especially against such oppositions.

Olivier Giroud’s 49-minute goal was cancelled by Daniel Podence strike 17 minutes later before Pedro Neto notched the winning goal at stoppage time to collect all three points for Wolves.

Chelsea have suffered back to back defeats in the Premier League since November 2019 and the manager revealed his disappointment after the game.

'I’m disappointed to lose the game. We had it under pretty good control at the point of 1-0. We weren’t playing brilliantly but we had control.

'I thought the game was there for us to win and then obviously we allowed them back into the game. We allowed them momentum, we allowed them some counter-attacks and we lose the game. So I’m really disappointed.'

The Blues were in the game in the first half, as Chilwell and Giroud combined earlier to threaten the Wolves defence.

When Giroud scored the header, Wolves adopted the breaks and exposed Chelsea’s defence but wasted a few chances that could have scored until Podence equalized.

They were awarded a penalty for a challenge on Neto but was later overturned following a VAR check inside the final 10 minutes.

'The threat of Wolves is clearly the counter-attack. They’ve got others but the counter-attack is the main one.

'They defend well, they’re organized, they have speed and quality in forward areas. The players knew it before the game, the players knew it in the game, and we allowed some counter-attacks and if you allow a team to play to their strengths then you may lose that game.'

Chelsea remains fifth with 22 points as Wolves moves to 10th on 20 points plus four other teams.
