Werner celebrates goal with team mates

Ian Wright has said that Lampard is beginning to define his team following heavy wins against Burnley and Sheffield United.

According to the former player, the Blues have proven to be strong contenders of the Premier League title this season and cannot be ruled out.

Frank Lampard’s side struggled in the opening fixtures of the Premier League having spent more than £250m on player purchases.

Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva struggled to adapt to the English game following moves from the Bundesliga and the French Ligue 1. Their first loss against Liverpool was a bitter pill for Lampard to swallow yet the recovery of Ben Chilwell and Hakim Ziyech was hope.

Edouard Mendy has become a boost to the side, helping to keep the defensive department in shape. The goalkeeper has kept three clean sheets out of four features since he took over from Kepa.

He conceded his first goal when Chelsea nailed Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United 4-1 last Saturday at Stamford Bridge thanks to Hakim Ziyech’s masterclass assists.

According to the Arsenal legend, the squad Lampard has at his disposal makes him a challenger of the title

"With the goalkeeper, Thiago Silva, Ziyech, Havertz and Werner coming in and the quality and standard of those players, they should be [title contenders]," said Wright.

"It's about fitting the pieces together. They've got everything in their armoury to challenge, without a doubt."

Chelsea will play Newcastle United after the International break at the Saint James Park.

They will then be put to test by a hardy Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspurs before travelling to Elland Road to face Leeds United.
