Lack of potable drinking water compel us to share water with cattle - Residents

Some residents of Asabaham have complained bitterly over the lack of potable drinking water in the area.

According to the aggrieved residents, they share unhygienic water with cattle, goats, and other animals due to the lack of potable drinking water in the Asabaham community.

Asabaham is a farming community with a population of over 1,200  in the Ga South Municipality but access to basic social amenities such as potable drinking water, a good road network, health facilities have become a major challenge over the years.

Speaking with some residents, they bemoaned that, current and previous governments have not made any attempt to bring development to the area a situation they described as total neglection.

We always have to walk 3 kilometers to fetch water where animals also drink from the same polluted river, they lamented.

The traditional ruler of Asabaham Zongo, Chief Fuseini Yaaro also lamented over the consumption of unhygienic water in his community which compelled them to visit the hospital on daily basis needs immediate attention from the government.

Chief Fuseini Yaaro added that all efforts made with the Assemblymember of the area at the Ga South Municipal to provide portable drinking water in the Asabaham community proved futile.

He has, however, used the opportunity to appeal to the central government, the Ga South Municipal Assembly, NGOs, and private entities to support them with portable drinking water to make living comfortable.
