Kwabenya Queenmother mad at MCE over disrespect

The Queen mother of the Kwabenya traditional area, Naa Korkor Dugbartey 1, has expressed worry about the conduct of the Municipal Chief Executive for the Ga East Assembly, Madam Elisabeth Kaakie Mann.

According to her, the MCE's continued gross disrespect of the traditional authorities is unacceptable. Speaking at a press conference to pour out her heart, the Queen mother, expressed her displeasure about the behaviour of the MCE, warning her to tread cautiously. “ Her arrogance and disrespect to the traditional rulers in the Kwabenya traditional area is unbearable and cannot be condoned anymore “, she complained. According to her, the MCE, who is expected to spearhead development is reported to have been amassing wealth at the expense of the municipality, particularly Kwabenya. According to the Queen mother, Naa Korkor Dugbartey, the MCE has rather channeled her energies into selling Kwabenya lands. “ Elizabeth Kaakie Mann has now become a land sales agent. She is now unscrupulously selling off our lands for her parochial interest. Thereby enriching herself at the expense of the custodial owners of the land “, she stressed. She further accused the MCE of selling an acre of land which she said is adjacent to the Ga East Municipal Hospital to an automobile company which in turn sold same to a Chinese construction firm. “ As I talk to you now, work has begun on the land by the a Chinese firm and fencing is already ongoing”, she revealed. But in all of these claims against the MCE, the most troubling one is the demolition of a set of two shops by the MCE belonging to the Queen-mother at a location not too far from the new Kwabenya market which is also on the Ga East Municipal hospital road. When the demolition happened, it got to the attention of the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey who instructed the MCE to reconstruct the shops for the Queen mother, but that has been ignored by the MCE for almost a year now. “Members of the press, it will surprise you to know that the MCE has called the bluff of the Minister and defied all odds to do what pleases her. She has since that date not laid a single block to mark the beginning of the reconstruction of my stores “, he pointed out. The pain of the Queen mother as she told Journalists is that she was instrumental in bringing the MCE to the Ga East Assembly. According to her, she lobbied for her and aided with the printing of T-shirts all in the bid to get her approved when she was nominated. Given the many issues against the MCE, she has called for her immediate removal from office. Her call also follows that of the traders of the Dome market who have also called for her sack over similar disrespect and arrogant behaviour.
