The Kokoben Technical Vocational School in the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region have drawn the government of Ghana's attention to its obligation towards making the school a fully functional institution to serve its purpose in the country.

According to key stakeholders in the school and community, efficient resources are required to equip learners theoretically and practically to put together their future as entrepreneurs yet the lack is propelling out interest of youth in the community.

The Kokoben Technical Vocational School according to the Assemblymember of Yaapesa Electoral Area, Honorable Lot Adu Asare was built by a foreigner and dedicated to the community for educational purposes. It has recently been handed to the government yet the degree of focus by the Ghanaian leaders is diminishing awareness and quenching pursuit.

“Our challenge in Ghana is that all students are depending on government for jobs meanwhile the vocational school has come to make young entrepreneurs.

“Majority of graduates are jobless and that is hurting. There are so many things the school can offer but as I speak, the necessities required to empower learners are lacking.

“We are calling on the government, philanthropists, and individuals to aid Kokoben Vocational School for there enough training for students.”

The school currently has eight equipped students and speaking to the headmaster, Mr Alex Opoku on why guardians are refusing to admit their wards, he told Soireenews reporter, Isaac Owusu, that due to the absence of the free Senior High and school feeding initiative, the custodians are not willing to be enrolled for a penny.

“We go round communities in the district for drive enrolment,” he disclosed.

“Our greatest challenge this year is that parents and their children believe the school, which is registered under government is free and offer meals without charge. When they realized tuition is required, they have quit and left for either secondary school or to learn a trade.

“We are purely technical and vocational school. The government is in the process of aligning all the Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centres under one umbrella. If that happens, we will be under the Ministry of Education. Right now as I speak, we are not under the Ghana Education service but the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relation.”

Mr Alex Opoku further suggested that should the school fall under the placement radar of the Ghana Education Service and the needed facilities and apparatus be provided for studies and practical, Kokoben Technical Vocational School will be one of the finest institutions to empower groom young capitalists.

“We have spoken to the DCE, Chiefs on the need to be involved in educating the significance of TVET to parents and wards. The Director of Education will bear witness to this. If the government could be involved, enrolment wouldn’t be a challenge.”

Some of the students shared with Soireenews the benefit of enrolling at Kokoben Technical Vocational School and their challenges that need to be resolved.

“We need a practical class and machines for our lessons,” a female student told.
