Kennedy Ohene Akompreko Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has explained why Dr. Osei Kwame "Despite" is named as such.

Kennedy revealed that although his very rich friend was born "Osei Kwame" into a very poor family, his name changed to Osei Kwame "Despite" because he always reminded his friends that he is extremely wealthy even though he didn't have the opportunity to attend school or gain any form of education. The MP said that his friend's favorite phrase is ‘Despite the fact that I didn’t attend school, I will be rich in life’.

Over time, the statement got shortened to just the single "Despite" and it has been added to his name ever since. 

Kennedy Agyapong revealed this when he was hosted by Paul Adom-Otchere on ‘Good Evening Ghana’ on Metro TV yesterday.

The meaning of the 'Despite' in the businessman's name has been a mystery for years until now.

Dr. Osei-kwame, also known as Despite, is a level-headed businessman with a very good background in music production and knows the broadcasting industry like the back of his palm.

Osei-Kwame is the owner of the Despite Company Ltd which is a trading company and with subsidiaries in the media industry namely, PEACE FM which is the largest and the most popular FM station in the country, OKAY FM station, NEAT FM both in Accra and HELLO FM station in Kumasi.

Dr. Osei-Kwame with his partner co-founded the United Television (UTV) which is a leading TV station in the country.

He has also been awarded the Best Entrepreneur for Multimedia by Entrepreneurs Foundation of Ghana under the auspices of the Ministry of Trade and Industries in 2013. Despite is a strong and devoted Christian.
