Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Ghana longest Service President, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings who passed on November 12, 2020, will be laid to rest at the Military Cemetary in Accra.

The burial place of the former President was confirmed at the final burial service held at the Black Star Square in Accra on Wednesday, January 27, 2021.

Rawlings left behind his wife, the former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, and four children.

However four-day burial rites of Ghana's longest-serving Head of State is being climaxed today.

Prior to this, a Catholic Requiem Mass and a vigil were held in his honour on Sunday, January 24th, followed by a 2-day Laying-In-State ceremony at the Accra International Conference Center for dignitaries and the general public to file past.

Though the public particularly has been advised to monitor proceedings from home to avoid the spread of COVID-19, many dignitaries, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, his Vice and some diplomats graced the occasion to pay their final respects to the former President of the country.

The late Jerry John Rawlings died on Thursday, November 12, 2020, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, aged 73, after a short illness.
