David Alaba has refused to come to terms with Bayern Munich for a contract extension as he seeks to find a new challenge in Europe.

The 28-year old's contract is set to finish in June 2021 and talks for an extension has failed to materialize as Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City and the latest, Manchester United are all seeking for his service.

Liverpool is key in landing the defensive midfielder in the absence of Virgil van Dijk who seems out for the rest of the season after his clash with Jordan Pickford in the Merseyside Derby last month.

A £30m has been quoted by Bayern to any team willing to purchase the player and Insidefootball reports that the Alaba's failure to continue life at the Allianz Arena over the past year is due to rumoured wage demands.

The Austrian wants €300k per week along with an agent fee that could exceed €20M and seems to favour a move to one of the Spanish giants – Real Madrid and Barcelona but none seems ready to afford such.

With eight weeks left for the January transfer window to open, it seems like a similar Thiago Alcantara transfer story could be repeated as Liverpool remains the only club among the rest in pursuit of Alaba desperate for a defender.
