I'm still not sure why I was disqualified - Afua Asantewaa

Afua Asantewaa claims she is still unaware of the reason behind her exclusion, despite Guinness World Records authorities disclosing that she was disqualified for her sing-a-thon attempt due to rule violations.

I'm still not sure why I was disqualified - Afua Asantewaa

The Guinness World Records said on Friday, February 23, 2024, that Afua Asantewaa of Ghana was unable to surpass her own record for the longest singing marathon, which she had attempted in December 2023.

"Afua Asantewaa's singathon effort failed because the rest break scheduling criteria were not followed. These guidelines apply to all of our "longest marathon" records, according to PR Executive Alina Polianskaya of Guinness World Records in response to an email from Joy FM.

Afua stated in a Graphic Showbiz interview which was monitored by Soireenews.com that she had not yet received word from the GWR regarding the specific reason or reasons why she had not made it.

"Like everyone else, I discovered via internet research that my rest breaks caused me to be disqualified. To be honest, because I was unable to access my GWR site, as of Monday, February 26, I had still not gotten a letter or anything from the Guinness World Record.

"I protested to them, and on Tuesday, February 27, I finally received a response. I was told that I was unsuccessful and that if I was ever ready to try again, they would be happy to hear from me, but they did not provide an explanation for my disqualification.

Regarding her second attempt at the GWR, Afua Asantewaa stated that she had not yet decided when to schedule a time with her team. For the time being, all she could say was that she was really appreciative of the overwhelming support Ghanaians had given her.

"The love I received from Ghanaians was overwhelming, and I am incredibly grateful for that. However, I am a person who never gives up, so even if I don't receive support in my next attempt, I will still go ahead and do it," she said.
