The Speaker of parliament has stamped his authority as the official mouthpiece of the Parliamentary Service or for that matter parliament at large.
His assertion follows a counterclaim by the majority leader that the Speaker's comment about delayed releases of funds to the House for its work was inaccurate
The Speaker on Thursday told members of Parliament that he has been hesitant in approving work schedules for committees as a result of a lack of funds.
According to him, the House has been running on arrears in the past due to the non-releases of budgetary allocations by the Ministry of Finance to Parliament.
The Speaker urged the Finance minister not to treat the Legislature as a ministry or any other government agency and ensure prompt delivery of funds for the effective functioning of the House.
The majority leader was reported to have countered the Speaker's claim in the media.
The comment by the Majority leader infuriated the Speaker who then set the record straight on the floor of the House insisting that records available to him affirm his pronouncement that parliament was broken.
The Speaker, in parliament today, May 27, 2022, has reacted to a similar comment made on the floor of parliament by the Majority Chief Whip who doubles as the Nsawam Adoagyiri Member of Parliament, Honourable Frank Annoh-Dompreh also made a similar comment.
