Second Lady rejects salary payment, to refund all allowances paid

The First lady of Ghana, H.E. Rebecca Akufo Addo was the first to refuse salary recommendations in the Prof Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu led committee approved by Ghana's parliament.

The second lady of Ghana Her Excellency Samira Bawumia has defined her stance in the ongoing national uproar of salary payment for the President’s spouse.

The second lady has rejected the salary recommendation in the Prof Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu led committee and will refund all allowance paid to her since 2017 and will not accept any monies allocated to her pursuant.

In a press release dated July 13, 2021, signed by her Senior Aid, Kwame Twum, Esq. : Mrs Bawumia will continue to be committed to the service of the nation; to deliver humanitarian interventions and initiatives in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment.”

Following the First Lady, HE Rebecca Akufo Addo’s decision to return allowances received since Nana Akufo Addo’s resumption in office, the wife of the Vice President, Dr Muhamadu Bawumia has taken the same stand to express that her service to Ghana is not on gains but on dedication.

“The First Lady has also decided not to accept any monies that have been allocated to be paid to her pursuant to the recommendations of the Ntiamoah-Baidu committee, as approved by Parliament," the statement from the office of the First lady revealed.

"She is doing this as a purely personal decision without prejudice to the right of others, and not to undermine the propriety of the process undertaken by Parliament”, it stressed
