HRH Saawa Yaalo Kwadaa I And The Yoowa People Mourn   The Passing Of Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II

The Overlord of the Yoowa people in Ghana, His Royal Highness Saawa Yaalo KwadaaI, and his people have mourned the passing of the Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II.

This was contained in a statement copied to the Soireenews.com on Monday July 13, 2026.

Below is the statement

STATEMENT OF CONDOLENCE FROM HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS SAAWA YAALO KWADAA I AND THE YOOWA PEOPLE ON THE PASSING OF HIS ROYAL MAJESTY YAA NAA ABUBAKARI MAHAMA II

It is with profound grief and a heavy heart that His Royal Highness Saawa Yaalo Kwadaa I, on behalf of the Chiefs, Elders, Queen Mothers, Youth, and the entire Yoowa people, extends our deepest condolences to the Royal Family of the Dagbon Kingdom, the Chiefs and people of Dagbon, the Northern Region, and the Republic of Ghana on the passing of His Royal Majesty Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II.

Indeed, a mighty iroko tree has fallen. Ghana has lost one of its most revered traditional rulers, and the Dagbon Kingdom has been deprived of a father, a peacemaker, and a visionary leader whose wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment to unity restored hope and stability to one of Africa's oldest and most respected kingdoms.

The passing of His Royal Majesty is not only a great loss to Dagbon but also to the entire nation. His reign will be remembered for his steadfast dedication to reconciliation, peacebuilding, and the preservation of the rich customs and traditions of the Dagbon Kingdom.

Through his exemplary leadership, he became a symbol of healing and inspired generations to embrace dialogue over division and unity over conflict.

While we mourn this irreplaceable loss, His Royal Highness Saawa Yaalo Kwadaa I respectfully urges the Royal Family, the traditional authorities, and the people of Dagbon to remain united and resolute during this difficult period.

The greatest honour that can be bestowed upon the memory of His Royal Majesty is to protect, preserve, and strengthen the peace, stability, and harmony he laboured tirelessly to establish.

The Dagbon Kingdom has stood the test of time as one of the oldest and most distinguished traditional kingdoms in Ghana and West Africa. It is our sincere hope and prayer that this generation of Dagbon's leadership will continue to demonstrate to Ghana and the international community that the kingdom has come of age and possesses the wisdom, strength, and unity to safeguard the remarkable legacy entrusted to them by their departed King.

As Scripture reminds us, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God." His Royal Majesty Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II lived by this noble calling, and his legacy of peace shall continue to inspire generations yet unborn.

On behalf of the Yoowa people, we once again convey our heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved Royal Family, the Chiefs and people of the Dagbon Kingdom, and all Ghanaians.

We pray that the Almighty grants His Royal Majesty eternal rest among his noble ancestors and gives comfort, strength, and wisdom to all who mourn him.

May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may the enduring peace he bequeathed to Dagbon forever remain the foundation upon which the kingdom continues to flourish.
