Joe Mettle has highlighted that the key to managing competition is to focus on one's self.

According to the award-winning gospel artiste, people in competition with others are sometimes tempted to focus on their competitors because of what they are offering at the moment.

He explained that the competitors seem to be getting all the attention because they provide something that the consumers want.

This might tempt other competitors to focus on that and try to give the consumers the same thing.

Joe Mettle noted that this is the wrong approach to managing competition.

The worship leader used this to warn artists to remain original and do their own crafts, getting better at it instead of copying other successful artists of the moment.

“When others are doing something that makes you feel competitive, it should rather push you to be the best version of yourself because there’s a reason why they are being patronized over you."

"It’s because they’re the best at what they do so you can compete in the industry but don’t compete in the image. Allow your image to be original and be the best at what you do”,

This he said while speaking to Mrs Comfort Ocran on the Springboard Hangout Show aired on eTV Ghana.

He further explained the essence of art, as an artist can only be recognized for what they do if they stay true to their own image and not try to walk in other people’s images.

Using himself as an example, he recounted how Ghanaians were pushing him to put out more projects as soon as possible after he won the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

He explained that it felt like a competition to him, but he never once allowed it to get into his own head to be pressured by the competition but rather he went at his own pace and worked to put out his album ‘Bo norr ni’.
