Holder Of ECOWAS Identity Card Threatens To Sue NIA
There is tension brewing within the Bogoso office of National Idenfication Authority (NIA) in the Prestea-Huni Valley municipality of the Western Region over refusal of the workers of the authority to update the correct name of holder of a ECOWAS Identity Card, popularly known as Ghana card.

The affected holder of Ghana card, Mr Domenic Nyame on Tuesday July 19, 2022 stormed the NIA's Bogoso office, requesting the correction to be done on his Ghana card about his name, Nyame which was wrongly spelt Myame but the workers were reported to have thrown out Mr. Nyame from their office.
Narrating his ordeal in an interview with Soireenews.com,expressed worry over the maltreatment meted to him by the workers in the NIA's Bogoso office.
The visibly worried Dominic Nyame who is the leader of Concerned Citizens of Prestea stated that he went to the Bogoso office of NIA for a correction of a typographical error on name to be corrected.

"l was being expected to go on my knees to beg them to do the correct one as if it was a privilege being extended to me and not their obligation. I am surprise to be told by the workers that the update has finished and that unless he travels far away from Prestea to Accra.May I know if they are not being paid for the work," Mr Nyame stated.
He quoted workers of NIA telling him that "We are telling you that if there is any decision to do update on your Ghana card the instructions should come from the headquarters of NIA in Accra.
He contended that the word Nyame, during the registration, the card registration officers made an mistake of spelling it Myame instead of Nyame and that he did not Identify the mistake earlier.
He said the mistake was noticed on his card in the wake when the state authority has issued directive to Ghanaians to link their mobile number to Ghana card.
He pointed out that one of his relatives living in oversea called me via telephone to inform me that that he would be returning to Ghana in August and that he is going to send money to my MTN Mono wallet for him to withdraw to do some project for him."
According to Mr. Nyame, his friend called via telephone call to inform him that he tried sending the money into "my MTN Mono wallet but the transaction was not going through, before l check on my Ghana card to see that my name Nyame was wrongly spelt as Myame."
"So it was the reason l went to the NIA office in Bogoso but the officers told me that l should go to the Accra head office of NIA before the update can done on my card.
He indicated that the staff of the NIA in Bogoso are not be fair to him because looking at the distance from Prestea to Accra before he can have the update done on his card, the situation has affected him to use the card to do any money transaction.

"So l want to ask that what are the purpose of the establishing the NIA office at Bogoso," he rethorically asked.
"Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced to the general public that from the July 21, 2022 everything would be going from the system, so if l don't get it done l would sue the NIA in the law court, because the problem had been affected his money transaction using the Ghana card,"he threatened.
Mr Nyame pointed out that many holders of the Ghana card have encountered this problem but they were afraid to talk about it for fear of victimisation.
