Health workers have gone on strike in protest of low pay

Hundreds of Zimbabwe's public health employees have gone on strike in protest of low pay and bad working conditions.

It comes as a result of the deepening economic crisis, which has seen thousands of public health personnel leave in the last three years.

As a result of the war in Ukraine, the cost of food and services has more than doubled in recent months, and annual inflation reached just over 130 percent in May, making it one of the highest in the world.

On Monday, nurses, senior doctors, and radiographers are among those who are scheduled to leave.

Patients may die as a result of the strike, according to union leaders, but they can't feed their families.

They went on to say that the government had refused to work with them.

Neglect and poor administration have caused the public health system to crumble during the previous 20 years.
