The Akwamuhene of Techiman Traditional Area, Nana Owusu Agyare II, has urged the government to pay much attention to vegetable cultivation especially tomatoes.

He revealed that the norm of Ghanaians trooping to Burkina Faso to buy tomatoes can be prevented with ease government gives tomato farmers the needed support because Ghana as a country has fertile lands as compared to their neighbouring countries.

Nana Owusu Agyare II appealed to the current government to revisit unfinished projects started by previous governments with the aim of improving farming.

He revealed that, during the regime of President John Agyekum Kuffour, he allocated a total of 160 acres of land to the then government for the development of an irrigation system to foster farming with over US$9 billion US funding from Africa Development Bank but that project never saw the light of day.

He also urged the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo government to provide tomato farmers with the right varieties suitable for their farmlands.

Nana Owusu Agyare II disclosed that a factory has already been built at Techiman for Tomato processing but due to the lack of proper support from the government to the tomatoes farmers, they struggle to yield more produce from their farms to feed the already built tomatoes processing factory which has now been turned into a pure water production factory.
