Glencore, the world's largest mining company, has admitted to bribery in Africa

After being accused of paying millions of dollars in bribes to get access to crude oil in Africa, a British subsidiary of the mining corporation Glencore has pleaded guilty to corruption charges in a UK court.

Glencore paid bribes totaling more than $28 million (£22.8 million) in Nigeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and South Sudan, according to the UK's Serious Fraud Office.

In November, the defendant will be sentenced.

The Swiss multinational has previously stated that it plans to pay up to $1.5 billion to settle bribery claims.
