Ghana’s Republic Day: NDC communicators call for patriotism in getting Ghana to destination

As Ghana mark, its Republic Day, the Bono Regional Communication Officer for the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Eric Adjei is calling for patriotism to enable the country to reach its intended destination.

According to him, the purpose for Ghana’s fight for Independence and becoming a Republican State was to be self-dependent from its foreign rulers but the country still seems to be lacking behind as compared to its sister African Countries who also fought for Independence after Ghana.

 He believes this is because the sense of patriotism among Ghanaians seems to below. Mr Eric Adjei also believes subsequent leaders who have led the country after independence must also be blamed for the slow pace of Ghana’s development.

Meanwhile, the Bono Regional Communications Director for the NDC, Asare Bediako Seth believes developing Ghana demands a collective effort. He believes the time has come for the normal eight-year term for each government to be change which he is optimistic will help various governments to accomplish their intended plans for the country’s development.

Ghana was the first sub-Saharan African country to achieve independence, on March 6th 1957. Three years later, Prime Minister Osagyefo Dr Kwame was sworn into office as the first President of the country and the republic was proclaimed on July 1st 1960. Republic day has also become Senior Citizens' Day, a day to recognize the efforts and contributions of senior citizens to modern Ghana.

Until 2019, Republic Day was a public holiday. Under the Public Holiday Amendment Bill which was passed in March 2019, Republic Day became a commemorative day.
