Former Swedish International and Arsenal icon, Karl Fredrik Ljungberg has sent a bold message to Arsenal Football club stating that “there needs to be a change” in how the Gunners hierarchy invests in the club.

Mikel Arteta’s was knocked out of the Europa League by Villarreal on Thursday night yet the damage was actually done last week when The Yellow Submarine charges ran out 2-1 winners in Spain before holding Arsenals to a goalless draw at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners currently sit 10th in the Premier League table and are out of all cup competitions which has defined their current season as all but over.

Last season, the Gunners won the FA Cup and Community Shield, while a number of exciting signings, such as Thomas Partey's arrival meant optimism was high.

However, Arsenal’s campaign has effectively fizzled out, and it’s very unlikely that the North Londoners will even qualify for Europe now.

Quoted by Optus Sport, Ljungberg said:

“I hope that this is the rock bottom and it can change from here.”

“But it needs investment to ensure that.”

“It really, really hurts but I think there needs to be a change in how they invest into the club and change the pattern that we get worse and worse every year.”
