Residents of Amanfo, a suburb of Mampong Akuapem, have expressed grave concern about the alarming rate of criminal activities in the area, especially at night.

The area, according to them, has for the past one week witnessed as many as three robbery cases where huge sums of money were stolen.

“My house was recently attacked at about 2:40 am by armed robbers who succeeded in making away with an amount of GH¢1,700 and some personal effects including Laptops and 3 iPhones, a resident, who is a Contractor told Soireenews.

Another resident gave an instance when an unidentified young man burnt her mosquito trap net on her window frame and used long metal to pull out her phone which was on charge, they were able to pick the husband phone too which was also on charge but when the husband woke up and rushed to arrest him, he realized they were more than three so they quickly moved their car and escaped.

The community, she said, has become so dangerous that residents are either afraid to stay long in town or go out at night.

Meanwhile, the residents were complaining about a lot of darkness in the community and our checks show most places in the community lack street lights but all efforts to get the side of the Assembly member of the area proved futile.

The residents are, therefore, calling on the Municipal Police Commander, and the Assembly member for the area to, as a matter of urgency, provide them with adequate police protection and enough street bulbs.
