Aston Villa have confirmed the sacking of Steven Gerrard as their manager after they lost to Fulham on Thursday night, October 20, 2022.

Fulham without a win in three matches before Thursday – had started brightly and were rewarded for their early pressure in the 36th minute when Harrison Reed fired in from the edge of the box.

10-man Villa were thrashed 3-0 at Craven Cottage.

The result leaves them 17th in the Premier League table, with their next game at home to Brentford on Sunday.

Villa fans openly vented their anger at Gerrard at half time and full-time, asking for him to go.

It is believed the club is already considering replacements for the former England midfielder.

Former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham coach, Mauricio Pochettino, is one of the frontrunners for the role.

Pochettino has been out of work since leaving PSG in July.

Gerrard's departure comes as no surprise after a disappointing start to the season by the Villans. The former Liverpool midfielder leaves after just 11 months in charge and is the fourth Premier League manager to depart so far in the 2022-23 campaign after Thomas Tuchel, Scott Parker, and Bruno Lage.
