In an effort to increase pressure for Alaa Abdel-release, Fattah's the family of the well-known Egyptian activist has started a sit-in outside the British Embassy in London.

Mr. Abdel-Fattah played a significant role in the 2011 uprising that ousted Hosni Mubarak, the longtime tyrant of Egypt.

He was found guilty of "broadcasting false news" and given a five-year prison sentence by a Cairo court in December. Since then, he has been on a hunger strike.

Through his British-born mother, the campaigner was granted UK citizenship in April while still incarcerated.

His sister, Sanaa Seif, claims that he is growing more frail and that there is not much time left to save him.
