Fourth UN peacekeeper dies after Mali blast

An explosion brought on by an IED in Mali has claimed the life of a fourth UN peacekeeper.

When the explosion occurred on Monday near Tessalit in northern Mali, the UN team was searching for landmines there.

The deceased were all citizens of Chad.

During the ten-year UN mission in Mali, some 180 peacekeepers' violence started as a reaction to a terrorist insurgency, but it has continued and grown since then.

El-Ghassim Wane, the mission's leader, stated at a UN Security Council meeting in New York that greater assistance was urgently required.
