Debt collection, land guard not your business - Soldiers told

The Deputy Commander of Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Brigadier General Wekite Abase Seidu has said that soldiers are not debt collectors, land guards, bodyguards or security to any private individuals without permission from the authority.

Brigadier General Abase Seidu made the remarks at the passing-out parade of the Basic Infantry Training Course 2 at the 2nd Infantry Battalion (2BN) at Takoradi in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis of the Western Region.

He said some soldiers, especially the young ones involved themselves in all manner of indiscipline conducts that denigrate the image of the Ghana Armed Forces.

He indicated that no soldier is above the law and thereby they have to subject themselves to the constitution of the country.

He warned the soldiers to also eschew engaging themselves in politics.

Brigadier General Abase Seidu expressed great concern about the abuse of military uniform by some soldiers adding that the misuse of the uniform has warranted non-military persons to also use the uniform to engaged in all sorts of activities, bringing the name of the forces into disrepute.

He called for a high level of sacrifice and commitment among soldiers, adding that the military profession is a calling and not just a job even though it's a very challenging career.

About 309 recruits comprising 190 female and 119 male who undergone physical training, tactics, weapon training, drill, military law, map reading, fieldcraft, first aid liberal education among others.
