An operation to remove a forked hoe from a two-year-old Kenyan boy's skull was in progress when he passed away.

A public outcry and claims from the boy's family after his death, occurred after doctors at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) took more than 20 hours to admit the boy and provide him with emergency care.

However, the hospital explained the delay in a statement on Tuesday, stating that the patient needed to be stabilized before going into surgery since they had lost a lot of blood.

The boy's mother then revealed to the local media that the boy had passed away during the procedure.

The incident has drawn the attention of KNH and other public health facilities.

They are frequently charged with providing subpar services to Kenyans when there are shortages of basic medical supplies and equipment for doctors due to inadequate financing from the government.
