Chelsea’s new goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy has been pulled out of the Senegal squad due to injury.

The former Rennes shot-stopper injured his thigh whiles on international duty according to Skysports.

The 28-year old joined the Blues during the recent transfer window in a £22m deal and his harm is a big blow to Frank Lampard’s side following his remarkable debut against Crystal Palace. Mendy kept a clean sheet in his debut following their 4-0 scoreline against Roy Hodgson’s side.

The loss of confidence in Kepa Arrizabalaga due to series of howler prompted Lampard to improve his goalkeeping department, and now that Chelsea have to wait to ascertain the severity of the injury, the Spaniard is the likelier option for the post.

They will face Southampton at the Saint Mary’s after the International break on October 17 before taking on Sevilla in their opening Champions League fixture at Stamford Bridge the following Tuesday.

Manchester United will be next on deck for the Blues at Old Trafford.
