Body of Tanzanian killed in Ukraine returns home

On Friday, the body of a Tanzanian national killed in combat with Russian soldiers in Ukraine was brought home.

Nemes Tarimo, 37, passed away three months ago after deciding to join the Wagner mercenary gang in Russia.

His body was picked up by his family at Dar es Salaam's main airport, and burial services were to take place in his hometown hamlet in the southern highlands of the nation on Saturday.

As a master's student in business informatics at the Russian Technological University, Mr. Tarimo had been in Moscow.

He was nonetheless eventually sent behind bars sometime after January 2021 for what were deemed to be drug-related offenses.

He was offered a choice: join the Russian mercenary company Wagner and receive a pardon, or remain in prison.
