Blinken to hold SA talks amid new Africa strategy

On Monday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will meet with his South African counterpart, Naledi Pandor, in South Africa, where he is beginning a three-nation African tour.

In response to worries that Washington is losing ground to both China and Russia, Mr. Blinken is anticipated to unveil a new African strategy to increase American influence there.

Since South Africa, a regional superpower, chose to remain neutral in the Ukraine War, relations have deteriorated recently.

Ms. Pandor claims that the US is attempting to penalize African nations for declining to support Western requests to denounce Moscow.

Mr. Blinken will visit Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo after South Africa.
