There has been a clash some aggrieved teachers and Headmistress of Asante Agona Technical Senior High School (SHS) in Sekyere South District of the Ashanti Region, Rev. Kate Oye Addodjan, following what the teachers described as "unfair disbursement of this year's Teachers Academic Intervention Fund.

The aggrieved teachers accused the headmistress of using what they described as illegal modalities by way ignoring the Ghana Education Service (GES) mandatory guidelines to distribute this year's Fund released to them by the Ghana Education Service.

They categorically stated that the headmistress has used her position to pocket a sum of G¢50,000.00 claiming she used that money to pay teachers with the additional responsibilities of the school.

The movement which the teachers insisted on is not in the GES's guidelines attached to the distribution of the fund to the teachers.

According to the teachers, they do not understand why Mrs. Addodjan, would ignore the GES guidelines attached to the fund to be distributed to the teachers and rather used her discretion to share the money among the teachers.

They noted that the government through the GES has extended teachers teaching contact hours by an hour and that the government has used the teacher’s academic intervention fund to remunerate the teachers for their extra teaching services.

They pointed out that when the money was released by GES for the previous years, the headmistress did well to use the GES guidelines attached to the fund for distribution.

"She has fairly disbursed the funds over the period, however by this recent action, we do not understand why she has decided to cheat us this time," the teachers complained.

The teachers pointed out that the amount allocated to the teaching staff as presented to the teachers in the school was GH¢102,879 and this was how it was shared of which "we opposed."

According to them, "50% of the said amount which is GH¢ 51,439.50 was shared across the board among 133 teachers of the school which each teacher will get GH¢386.00.

Additionally, they noted that "The other 50% was divided into two which amounts to GH¢ 25,719.50. This amount was shared among Gh¢128 teachers who took part in the intervention and each teacher will get GH¢201.00

"When we contacted teachers who are our colleagues in the other schools, the teachers told us that they shared the money equally across the board but at our school, the headmistress wanted to cheat us although the modalities on how the money is going to share were attached to the disbursement of fund released by GES,' the teachers further complained.

The teachers have since reported the incident to the District Education Director and also called on the government to impress upon the GES to call the headmistress and her followers to order since the matter is affecting teaching and learning in the school.
