Some agitated and aggrieved members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akyem Apedwa in the Abuakwa South Constituency in the Eastern Region of Ghana on Wednesday morning, September 22, 2021, went on a rampage to lock up the party office.

They burnt flags as well as paraphernalia of NPP over the removal of the Municipal Chief Executive, Kojo Ofori Sarfo.

President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo through the Local Government Minister, Dan Botwe announced on Sunday, September 19, 2021, nominated Asabea Anna to replace Kojo  Ofori Sarfo as Abuakwa South MCE.

Kojo Sarfo Ofori who hails from Apedwa spent only 2 years in office as MCE.

The aggrieved supporters of the party are incensed hence the agitation.

The party supporters said they have supported the NPP party since 1992 in the constituency, but have never had a single appointment under the NPP government.

According to them, NPP wins all polling station elections in Apedwa, compared to Kyebi, however political positions are given to people in Kyebi.

Ofori Safo a staunch member of the NPP in Apedwa, mentioned that they have been denied political appointments for long albeit, and have suffered enough for the NPP party.

They believe Kojo Ofori Sarfo was denied the position because he didn’t come from Kyebi.

“We don’t want any appointment except the MCE position," he said.

"We are demonstrating to tell the President that we are not happy with the nomination that he has made in Abuakwa South, winning an election is a major contributing factor to who becomes the next President and MCE, therefore if we have done 100 per cent of both, why must we be denied the second when the President got the first.

"We are demonstrating to tell the President that we have ceased to work for the party. He should go and bring his family members and Okyenhene Nana Amoatia Ofori Panin to come and do the work for him since he listens and believes in them more than us”

Awo Ntiamoah, a former women organizer for NPP at Apedwa said the NPP has disappointed the people of Apedwa for a long overdue and it is the time to demand their share of development.

According to her, the area has not seen any major developmental change under NPP, in spite of the party been enjoying massive support from the residents.
