Lionel Messi’s father, Jorge Messi has touched down in Spain to engage in talks with club president of Barcelona, Josep Bartomeu.

The Lionel Messi and Blaugranas saga has gotten to a level where the Argentine does not want to meet with any of the Barcelona board to engage in further discussions regarding his future at the club. The 33-year old has already made up his mind to leave with reasons much known to him aside the speculated rumors sketched by the press.

Bartomeu has managed to contact Messi’s father, to convince him in order to counsel the FIFA Best player to rescind his decision.

Jorge Messi boarded a private jet taking him to Spain from Rosario in Argentina and landed in the private terminal of the Barcelona-El Prat airport at around 6.45 am local time.

Messi’s position is clear, he wants to leave the Camp Nou yet the Barca board prefers a continuity of trade, a hierarchy the current president does not want to end during his time – to make Barcelona an ordinary club with the fans having no skillful player to boast of.

If Messi’s wish is granted, Bartomeu will be blamed by the stakeholders of the club for letting go of Neymar and Messi during his term, something he does not wish to see happen.

The Argentine has 700m euros as a release clause in his contract, an amount the president does not want to remind Messi because of his legal arguments against it.

If Barca are unable to convince Messi through his father to keep playing for the team through an extension, one thing is certain – an asking price.

Reports disclose that Lionel Messi will be willing to support interested clubs to pay for his release out of Spain.

The final decision will depend on today’s meeting.
