Onyeama took his fourth COVID-19 test on Saturday, after feeling some signs of throat irritation.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, has tested positive for coronavirus.

Onyeama announced the result of his fourth test on his official twitter handle on Sunday.

He said he was heading for isolation and treatment.

The Minister tweeted: “Did my fourth Covid-19 test yesterday at the first sign of a throat irritation and unfortunately this time it came back positive.

 

 

“That is life! Win some lose some. Heading for isolation in a health facility and praying for the best. #StayHomeSaveLives #COVID19 #PTFCOVID19.”

Several public office holders, including state governors and other political appointees, have tested positive to the Coronavirus, within the last three months.

Of the number, only one death has been recorded, that of 67-year-old Mallam Abba Kyari, the former Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.

All others have recovered or are undergoing treatment and isolation.

As at midnight of Saturday 18 July, Nigeria had the second-highest number of confirmed cases with 36,107 confirmed cases out of 209,446 tests conducted.

A total of 14,938 persons have been discharged after making full recovery, while 778 persons have died from COVID-19 complications in Nigeria.
