Young Thug has been detained on gang-related accusations.

According to police records, US rapper Young Thug was detained on charges of participation in illegal street gang activity.

The 30-year-old was detained as part of a wider grand jury indictment that includes 28 members and associates of his record label, YSL.

YSL is described in the indictment as a "criminal street gang."

In addition to Gunna, another rapper was mentioned in the indictment.

With Punk, Young Thug topped the US album charts last year. He also co-wrote Donald Glover's critically acclaimed and widely discussed song This Is America.

He has been charged with both illegal street gang activity and conspiring to violate a federal law intended to combat organized crime.

The YSL enterprise, which stands for "Young Slime Life," is included as a Bloods associate in the indictment.

It mentions songs and music videos that are "an overt act in support of the conspiracy," as well as hand gestures and emojis believed to be used by the YSL.

According to the records, Gunna, whose true name is Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, has also been charged.

The other 28 accused have been charged with more serious offenses such as murder and attempted armed robbery.

"Mr. Williams committed no crime whatsoever," a lawyer for Young Thug told local media. Gunna's representatives have been contacted by the BBC for comment.

Young Thug is being held in Fulton County Jail and is due to appear in court on Tuesday.
