The Public relations officer for Chirano Mines, Mr Ampratwum, speaking with Nana Konadu Yiadom on Akoma FM's news at six, monitored by soireenews the pro indicated that, the vehicle which was carrying the dynamite which exploded at Apietie does not belong to the mine but rather MAXAM GHANA LIMITED.

He admitted maxam being the company's dynamite supplier. He further stressed that what happened is so pathetic hence we should join hands together to assist the victims.

He added that the mine is fully committed to supporting the affected victims.


Touching on the state of the driver, he explained that, the driver's current state could only be known by the maxam company, "we would have had access to the driver if he was able to reach the mine with the dynamite.


He concluded that the mine only become the owner of any requested item requested from outside their yard when it reach a place called Ntwrentwrenso.

BACKGROUND:

Apart from the deaths, the explosion destroyed several properties.

Residents of the area had to run for their lives.

“Preliminary investigation has established that a mining explosive vehicle moving from Tarkwa to Chirano mines collided with a motorcycle resulting in the explosion,” according to a police report.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has announced the activation of a full emergency recovery exercise in the area following the explosion.

 
It is being done in collaboration with other emergency service providers in the country.

The police have, therefore, urged “all to remain calm” as it manages the situation.
