Six Zimbabwe prisoners escape from SA custody

On Monday morning, six accused armed robbers from Zimbabwe managed to flee from custody while in transit after a shootout broke out between them and South African police.

The six inmates were released during the gunfight, according to a statement from South African police, who said they have started a manhunt for the "heavily armed" suspects.

About 120 kilometers south of Beitbridge, a border town close to Zimbabwe, the daring assault was carried out.

People are advised under no circumstances to approach the suspects because they are thought to be dangerous; instead, they should contact the police, according to South African police.

The South African government has been harshly prosecuting foreign nationals engaged in violent crimes, particularly Zimbabweans.
