Xhedan Shaqiri has tested positive for coronavirus whiles on international assignment, the Swiss FA has confirmed.

He is the third Liverpool to have recorded the virus following Thiago Alcantara and Sadio Mane.

“Xherdan Shaqiri has tested positive for Covid-19,” read a statement from the Swiss Football Association on Tuesday morning.

“In consultation with the health authorities, he is in isolation.

“The strict protective measures and requirements of UEFA for national teams in accordance with the ‘UEFA Return to Play Protocol’ have been strictly adhered to since the move began.

“Based on this, clarifications are currently underway with the local health authorities about how to proceed.”

He was part of the Swiss team to take on Croatia on Wednesday, followed by Nations League matches against Spain and Germany on October 10 and 13.

Shaqiri has only made one appearance in the current season for the Reds in Liverpool 7-2 Carabao cup victory over Lincoln City September 24, 2020.

Injury has incapacitated the 28-year old playing time at Anfield and has been linked with a move to Roma and Lazio but no deal materialized before Monday’s transfer deadline shut down.

The Liverpool forward will undergo self-isolation guidelines for at least ten days after the point symptoms first appeared.
