Friday's rainstorm in Ashaiman within the Greater Accra Region has destroyed courtroom ceiling in the late hours of today.

The rainstorm which blew through the roof of the courtroom forcibly removed the ceiling amidst noise.

The weak ceiling was pushed down by sudden storm and almost hitting a running ceiling fan creating a scaring spectacle making court users flee for their lives.

The rainstorm was so strong uncontrollable noise making hearing difficult. In the wake of the above, the presiding judge, His Honour Simon Gaga halted court proceedings.

The sad spectacle had left a court user hurt in the right arm. Speaking to an official of the court on conditions of anonymity, it became clear that the portion of ceiling that got broken had already been earmarked to be fixed due to its weak nature.

He added that the noisy nature of the courtroom had compelled the judge to adjourned sitting. It was that the judge did not know anything about the incident until an official of the court drew his attention.

"There was general hearing difficulty among the users so the judge was compelled to adjourned the court proceedings", the court official accounted.

Following the above, the court official is making an appeal to the Municipal Chief Executive(MCE) of Ashaiman, Honourable Albert Boakye Okyere to as a matter of urgency assist to restore sanity in the courtroom to enable proceedings to continue from Monday, 25 September, 2023.

As per the schedules of the court for Friday, hearing of matrimonial cases started by 8:30am and ended at about 11:00am.

Right after that,hearing of criminal cases continued steadily only for the rainstorm to disrupt hearing.

At the time of the uncontrollable incident, a prosecution witness was in the witness box being cross examined by a counsel.

"There was general hearing difficulty among the counsel, the judge and everyone in the courtroom so the judge was compelled to adjourned the court proceedings so the judge was forced by the situation against his wish to adjourn court proceedings for the day", the anonymous official recounted.
