Probe BoG governor, Akufo Addo government and the "so-called" financial loses-CMD angrily calls

The Caucus for Matured Democrats(CMD) is urging authorities to dig deeper into the "financial loses" claims by the Bank of Ghana(BoG).

This, according to CMD will help determine the validity of the unbelievable financial loss uncovered by the Auditor General.

The CMD's calls are contained in a press statement dated August 5, 2023, demanding an urgent probe into the BoG financial loss claims.

According to the CMD, the Governor could not be probed while detaching the government and the Akufo Addo-led New Patriotic Party(NPP) activities.

The CMD fumes and quizzes, "Do you know the Ghc60 billion the Bank of Ghana claim they have lost is more than the 54billion Ghana cedis John Dramani Mahama and NDC borrowed within 4 years for all the mega projects dotted across the length and breadth of Ghana?".

"What this mean is that all the projects the NDC did and all money spent doing these mega projects is still less than what the Bank of Ghana claims to have lost in just 12 months.

The CMD believes that the said amount claimed to have been lost to the state by the BoG gar more exceeds Former President John Mahama's GHS54 billion which provided Ghana with unimaginable projects such as Terminal 3, Kumasi, Ho, Tamale, and Wa airports, 200 E Blocks, UGMC, Ridge, Sewua, Fomena, Tepa, Wa, Bolga, Maritime and Bank of Ghana Hospitals.

The rest are Kejetia, Kotokuraba, Ho, Tafo, etc Markets, over a thousand CHPS compounds, Ayalolo, and STC buses, Tema Mpakadan Railway, Kojokrom Railway, Tema Motorway roundabout, and Kasoa interchange.

The CMD could not understand why such a colossal amount of money will be lost to the state and all the government did was to make mention of it without investigating how such an amount was lost.

It is in the spirit of probity and accountability that the CMD is of the view that knowing how, when, and what the money was lost to will inform decision-making in preventing re-occurrence.

According to the CMD, what the Bank of Ghana claims it has lost from January 2022 to January 2023 could do the work John Mahama's 54 billion cedis projects done in office.

"Ghanaians must be very angry and aggressive enough in demanding the immediate recovery of the loses and sternly punish all those culpable in causing the huge lose to the state", CMD started.

"The legitimate questions every Ghanaian must be asking are: 1. What business has the Bank of Ghana transacted in the interest of the nation that caused the losses? 2. Were the Bank of Ghana's regulations, procedures, and processes duly followed per constitutional provisions? 3. Was the governor of the Bank of Ghana mindful of causing financial loss to the state when engaging in releases of such funds belonging to the state? 4. Did the governor of the Bank of Ghana put the interest of the state ahead of everything that caused the loss? 5. What are the competency levels of the people in charge of the Bank of Ghana today under President Akufo Addo? There are many questions demanding answers in this colossal money loss the Bank of Ghana has in recent times announced", the CMD queried.

The CDM, therefore enunciated that it is the legitimate right of Ghanaians to demand the recovery of state funds and appropriate sentences prescribed for all culpable persons who are culpable in the financial malfeasance.

The Caucus for Matured Democrats maintained that such a colossal amount of money can not simply be written off without due processes being followed to the latter.

The Caucus For Mature Democrats could not comprehend the heightened level of corruption and colossal losses under a president who promised to protect the public purse and yet engaged in acts in contrast.

CMD further stressed that no democracy under the sun, moon, and stars will allow the level of ineptitude, wastefulness and abject disregard for the law except under the malfunctioned government of President Akufo Addo.

"Each passing day, the country is plagued with one scandal or the other making it sink deep down. It will be unacceptable to sit aloof while the nation deteriorates with each passing day. We therefore call for a thorough investigation into the colossal loss to the state and other scandals like the national cathedral, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah money scandal, the alleged Abu Jinapor house burning, all other alleged corruption and state landgrabs scandals"CMD noted.
