Police contact SA minister over sexual assault claim

Enoch Godongwana, the finance minister of South Africa, was approached by police on Thursday over an accusation of sexual assault made against him, according to reports in the local media.

An employee of the hotel where the minister and his wife earlier this month spent the night in the eastern state of Mpumalanga filed the assault allegation.

Mr. Godongwana claims he did nothing wrong.

The minister was told of the complaint against him by police on Thursday.

"I am happy that the police have finally gotten in touch with me and given me the chance to learn what they are accusing me of.

I'm also delighted I have the chance to officially deny the claim. The minister is quoted as adding, "I take the accusations extremely seriously.

He also ruled out resigning as finance minister.
