Nigerian Army Commander Killed In Recent Boko Haram Bomb Attack

A Nigerian Army commander has been killed on Saturday after an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near his vehicle in Marte, Borno State.

According to reports from news source, Premium Times, the army major, who before his death was the commander of 153 Task Force Battalion in Marte Local Government Area, was leading a patrol of the unit’s perimeter when the bomb detonated on Saturday evening.

The source also disclosed that the officer was the only one immediately confirmed dead in the attack. As at time of report, It was unclear whether some of his troops, including members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, were injured or killed during the patrol.

The name of the officer was not disclosed as it was unclear whether or not his family has been notified by the military.

The source also confirmed that Army spokesperson, Sagir Musa, did not return a request for comment on the attack that killed the Army major.

The major has become the latest senior officer to die since a colonel was killed in battle sometime in July.

This recent attack has raised fresh concerns about Boko Haram’s ability to launch surprise strikes as the federal strives to limit the operations of the terrorist group.
