NDC Volta MPs to meet over Western Togoland saga

Members of Parliament of the NDC in the Volta Region will today meet with the Regional Minister, Dr Letsa to discuss the recent disturbances caused by Western Togoland secessionist group in the area.

MP for North Tongu Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the meeting will allow them to know the steps taken by the Regional Coordinating Council to address these security concerns.

According to him, they have received reports that three people were killed during the shootout by the security forces on Friday as against the one reported by the state.

Dr Ablakwa has called for a superior intelligence to deal with this secessionist group.

The latest attack allegedly carried out by the group which follows an earlier attack on some state institutions and police stations including mounting of roadblocks on Friday 25th September 2020.

The group attacked the State Transport Corporation (STC) in the Volta Regional capital, Ho, and set ablaze one of its buses.

The members of the group reportedly fired gunshots before proceeding to beat up some drivers.

Meanwhile, Security Analyst, Adam Bonaa, has described as strange, the silence of President Akufo-Addo Dankwa and the National Security Minister on the problems caused by some secessionist groups in the Volta region.

According to Mr Bonaa, Akufo-Addo must address the issue, to assure the citizenry of taking the appropriate steps to handle the situation.

Mr Bonaa noted that information management by the government is not helpful and urged the government to be truthful
