In the Chibuto region of the southern Mozambican province of Gaza, a nine-year-old child narrowly evaded a crocodile assault.

The event occurred while the girl was swimming in the Limpopo River.

She informed the local media that when she realized she was being attacked, she tried to scratch the reptile's nose but before she could release her grip, one of her legs was seriously injured.

I punched the crocodile and scratched its snout after it seized and dragged me. She informed the state network Radio Mozambique that the crocodile quickly freed her and flung her.

She was brought right away to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The girl is well, according to hospital director Marta Moiane.
