More individuals enter Ukraine from Poland than the other way around.

According to the Polish Border Guard, more persons entered Ukraine from Poland on Friday and Saturday than crossed the border the other way, marking a first since Russia launched its invasion on February 24.

On Saturday, the Polish border service counted 22,000 persons crossing into Ukraine from Poland, with 19,200 people traveling in the opposite direction.

On Friday, the service counted 25,100 individuals crossing into Ukraine and 24,400 crossing into Poland.

Aid workers who cross the border often are among those entering and exiting Ukraine.

“We are Ukraine's neighbors not only literally, but also in the sense of the common history and understanding of the situation,” Polish President Andrej Duda said Wednesday.

As the focus of Russia’s war has shifted to eastern Ukraine, some of those who fled to Poland and other neighboring countries have returned to areas regained by Ukrainian forces.
