Momo Agents In The Northern Region Kick Against E-Levy  Bill

The Northern Region Mobile Money Agents Association have joined the crusade against the passage of the controversial E-Levy bill at Ghana's Parliament

At a press conference to share their stands on the ongoing debate, the Association charged the government to review the bill with immediate effect.

According to them, the mobile money businesses will collapse if the government goes ahead to passes the bill.

President of the Association, Mr. Mumuni Abdul- Aziz said after consultations they have realized the negative implications the bill will have on the economy.

He said the E-Levy bill will cause more harm than good to the good people of Ghana.

"The timing is not right, especially when the government itself has admitted that citizens are experiencing hardships in their economic lives. And it's the citizens whom we serve as our business customers. And we are already experiencing low business turnover a day in day out in our businesses. If this E-Levy policy is passed our situation will be worsened, which we don't want it to happen".

Mr. Mumuni mentioned that the policy will stifle the digital transaction which is Momo and the rest.

"We can all testify to the fact that; the government has been making efforts for a cashless economy and the creation of jobs for the youth of which Momo is a strong pillar to these interventions. So why would the same government want to bring out a policy that will undermine the digitalization drive and also push the youth out of jobs". He said.
