Mikel Arteta has the backing of Arsenal Chiefs following his loss to Burnley at the Emirates on Sunday.

The Gunners have had a long run of loss in their Premier League campaign, having suffered seven defeats, four wins and a draw after 12 games and are 15th on the table with 13 points.

The Sun reported last Thursday that Arteta has three games including the recent defeat to Burnley at home to save his job yet the technical director of the club, Edu has backed the former Manchester City assistant manager and has asked fans to give him more time to build the team in the right direction.

“Mikel is doing a great job,” said Edu.

“I can see a big and beautiful future. It's very strange to say that in this moment, but I have to be fair – that's the way I see the photo.”

The Gunners will play Southampton at the Emirates on Wednesday and will look to secure victory after successive losses to Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers on home soil.
