Lionel Messi’s father has challenged Barcelona that Messi is not reporting to the training anytime sooner.

Jorge Messi, the father of the Barcelona captain has responded to La Liga's claim through a release stating that the 700m euro release clause of his son is no longer active as speculated hence the talisman's decision to abandon Barca's activities ahead of the new season.

"We do not know what contract you have analyzed and one what grounds you conclude that there is a recission clause applicable in the case of him deciding to unilaterally end his contract from the end of the 2019/20 season," the statement sent by Messi's father and agent, Jorge, read.

In the next point, Jorge Messi criticized LaLiga president Javier Tebas.

"This is a clear error on your part," it continued.

"As clause 8.2.3.6 of the contract signed between the club and the player explicitly says: 'This indemnity will not apply when the player's decision to unilaterally rescind the contract is effective from the end of the 2019/2020 season.'"

"It is obvious that the compensation of 700 million euros provided in the previous clause is not applicable at all," it stated.

LaLiga last Wednesday released a statement of advice that Messi must pay his release clause if he wants to leave Barcelona.

The statement by the Spanish football executives was a boost for the Blaugranas who felt the player is been unfair to a club he has been contracted to for almost two decades.

Jorge Messi and the club president of Barca, Josep Bartomeu met on Wednesday to discuss the future of the 33-year old yet a concrete agreement was not reached as both sides seem upset concerning how the future of the six-time Ballon d’Or winner was been discussed.

He has so far refused training after avoiding the COVID-19 test earlier.

If his father’s claim is true that his free get-out clause is active, then the Argentine will soon make known his objectives known ahead of his new club.
