Liverpool moved five points within top four after a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux after a first-half injury-time goal by Diogo Jota.

The loss was Wolves ninth in the Premier League games against Liverpool, their joint-longest losing run versus a side in their league history alongside nine consecutive defeats vs Brighton between 1979-1989

The intensity of the game was quick at the blast of the referee’s whistle when Semedo tested Alisson after Neves laid a fine ball to the Portuguese whose shot towards the Brazilian keeper was saved at ease.

The Reds made their first real attack which almost led to their first goal after Wijnaldum sent Mane through into the area and Patricio came out and did enough to send Mane out wide. The Senegalese tried his luck, but it's was an easy block for Wolves to prevent the ball from going in.

The Reds came close again in the 22-minute when Robertson again fed Mane down the left, and he showed some lovely use of pace to drive past Saiss. He then attempted to cut the ball back for Salah in the middle, but Patricio stuck out a foot to see the ball away.

Wolves continued rolling the ball in the air whenever they got to the Reds half but Nathaniel Philips height and position was a great benefit for the Reds as he headed out any threats.

Diogo Jota during injury time in the first half put the Reds in front against his former side.

Mane did well to drive the ball out from midfield, before playing a neat one-two with Salah. He then used the return to ball to sweep it out to Jota on his left.

The former Wolves man then used a deft flick to send the shot past Patricio to enjoy his muted celebration.

Liverpool continued from where they left off in the second half when Mohamed Salah almost doubled the Reds lead after a fine pass from Mane in the 50-minute but the Egyptian fired wide.

Wolves in the dying minute of the game piled pressure on the visitors but Nathaniel Philips and Kabak’s partnership was good enough to soak the threats to avoid the Reds from conceding.

Rui Patricio was stretched off the field after a collision with Conor Coady who tried to defend an effort by Mohamed Salah inside the six-yard area.

Wolves kept knocking but their efforts were not enough to grab a point against the Champions.

The hosts are now winless in four matches and remain 13th on 35 points.
