Julian Sands: British actor identified as hiker missing in southern California

Julian Sands, a British actor, has gone missing after trekking in the mountains to the north of Los Angeles.

He vanished last Friday after inclement weather in the San Gabriel Mountains in the Baldy Bowl area.

Due to avalanche hazards, ground rescue teams stopped searching over the weekend, according to police, although drone and helicopter searches were still being conducted.

The 65-year-old Mr. Sands is well recognized for his parts in hit movies and TV shows like A Room With A View, 24 and Smallville.

President Joe Biden declared a disaster following weeks of catastrophic storms that tore through California.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office stated that they would resume the search once the environment was safe for rescue personnel.

It claimed that over the previous four weeks, it had responded to 14 calls on Mount San Antonio, also known as Mount Baldy to the locals. Hikers were advised to "keep clear" from that region.

Even seasoned hikers are having problems because it is so dangerous, according to the department. Another American hiker who vanished in the same mountains is also being sought after.

A mother of four who was an experienced hiker, according to acquaintances, died last week after falling more than 500 feet down Mount Baldy.

On January 13, about 19:30 local time, Mr. Sands was reported missing.

The search was complicated by strong weather forecasts and the state of the trails, but the department's search and rescue teams responded and started looking.

The statement added, "However, we continue to search by aircraft and drones when the weather permits.

Mr. Sands has previously discussed his passion for trekking and mountain climbing.

In response to the question "What makes you happy?" in a 2020 Guardian interview, he stated, "Close to a mountain summit on a wonderful cold summit."

Mr. Sands, a Yorkshire native who has starred in dozens of movies and TV shows, first gained international recognition for his leading performance in the 1985 British romantic comedy A Room With A View.

He most recently made an appearance in the Peter Capaldi-led drama Benediction.

Mr. Sands, his wife, and their three kids reside in the Los Angeles neighborhood of North Hollywood.
